Recipe: Crispy Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken | Party Starter Recipe

Hello Bees!! This dish is a super tasty and simple to make, specially if you are going to throw a party at home for this new year celebration and you do not have time to prepare all those fancy recipes. This one is a life savor for sure, without much hassle you can quickly prepare the dish and everybody will praise you definitely for this finger licking starter.

If you wish you can serve it as a main course with plain boiled rice and some salad. Just remember if you want crunchiness in the recipe, you need to serve it immediately after preparing he dish. All you can do is fry the chicken first time (we need to fry them twice, first frying process will help to cook them and second frying process will help to make them crunchy) along with the sauce. At the time of serving you can quickly fry them for second time, incorporate with sauce right after that and serve them.

Crispy Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Serves: 5-6

Ingredients: (1 cup= 240 ml approx.)

For marinating the chicken-

  • Chicken – 600-700 grams
  • Ginger- 1 tsp, grated
  • Soy sauce- 2 tsp
  • Pepper- as per taste
  • Salt- as per taste

For the sauce-

Ingredients # 1

  • Soy sauce- 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar- 2 tbsp
  • Corn flour/starch- 2 tsp
  • Sugar- 1 tsp

Mix all up and keep it aside.

Ingredients # 2

  • Garlic- half of a bunch or 20 cloves, very finely chopped
  • Chili powder- 2 tbsp
  • Green chili- 5-6 slit vertically
  • Onion- 1 large, finely chopped
  • Capsicum- 1 small, red and yellow or green, sliced
  • Green onion- 7-8 stalks, stalk and leaf part separated
  • Whole red chili- 5-6
  • Salt- as per taste

Prepare the chicken for frying-

  • Egg white- 2
  • Corn flour- 1 cup
  • Pepper- as per taste

Other Ingredients:

  • Oil- 1 ½ cup or 375-400 ml for frying
  • Oil-1/2 cup or 125-150 ml for cooking
  • Water- ¼ cup or 60-70 ml

For garnishing

  • Chili flakes (optional, if you are not using red chili powder)
  • Green onion (green part)
  • Roasted sesame seeds

How to make:

To brine the chicken:

  1. Clean and wash chicken thoroughly.
  2. In a bowl take vinegar-¼ cup, salt- 4-5 tbsp, and cold water- 1 cup and put the chicken in mixture.
  3. Refrigerate it for at least 1-2 hrs.
  4. Discard the mixture after brining.

To marinate the chicken-

  1. Now mix all the ingredients from the list “ingredients #1” under “for marinating the chicken”. Now cover it and keep it in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.

To prepare the chicken for frying-

  1. After marinating, add egg whites, corn starch and pepper.
  2. Mix everything very well.
  3. Heat a pan and add oil. Let the oil heat properly (to know the right temperature put a wooden skewer into the oil. If it’s bubbling it means oil is ready for frying).
  4. Turn the heat on medium and add chicken pieces one by one. Do not over crowd the pan.
  5. Fry it until it has got a light golden colour and cooked properly from inside.
  6. Remove from the pan. Keep it aside as we need to fry it another time.
  7. Meanwhile start preparing the sauce.

To make the sauce-

  1. In a wok or large pan heat ½ cup oil, put garlic and sauté it for a while, add whole red chili.
  2. Add chopped onion, little salt. After a minute add white part of green onion and green chilies. Fry them.
  3. Now add capsicums and red chili powder, fry for couple of minutes.
  4. Lower the heat and add the pre made sauce mix (see from ingredient #1 list under “for the sauce”) and water.

Combine sauce with fried chicken-

  1. While the sauce is getting ready, fry the chicken for one more time on high heat for couple of minutes.
  2. Now take out the fried chicken on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil and put them in the sauce.
  3. Mix them well. Turn the heat off and take them out on a serving bowl.
  4. Sprinkle finely chopped green onion, roasted sesame seeds and serve immediately with any cold beverages or boiled/steamed rice.

  1. This sounds delicious! Does it seem quite a lot of ingredients when making it? Is it easy to do for an every day meal or is it something more special? Fancy trying it but I must admit I am one for easy, everyday cooking. X

    1. Hello Zara, yeah it is delicious, you can easily make it. But I do not encourage people to eat fried food for everyday. For me it’s kind of fancy which I usually make when people come over to my place (that’s why I have said it’s party starter). In between me too is a daily cooking lover 🙂 Have a good day.
